Digital rewards platform for maritime crews

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The company needed a digital system to improve crew recognition. The objectives were to provide seafarers with immediate access to rewards and digital services, and to give maritime companies a tool for distributing and measuring these appreciation programs. The system required reliability for remote ocean use and scalability for global fleets.

K-Softex undertook the project based on our experience in building secure, transactional platforms for specialized industries.

CHALLENGE

The K-Softex team addressed several specific obstacles.

1/ Offline connectivity constraints

The application for seafarers had to function with intermittent or absent internet connectivity, particularly for accessing purchased eSIMs and vouchers.

2/ Multi-platform development

Building a performant application for both iOS and Android sailors, paired with a separate management portal for office-based managers, demanded an efficient technical approach.

3/ Financial transaction security

Handling real monetary value within user wallets and processing payments for eSIMs and coupons required bank-grade security and compliance.

4/ Industry-specific adoption

The solution needed to address the particular work conditions and motivational drivers of seafarers, moving beyond a generic rewards model.

SOLUTION

K-Softex architected a full-stack platform with two interconnected entry points – a mobile application for crew and a web portal for company management.

Backend

Python Django framework for core API logic to manage user profiles, wallet balances, and reward catalogs.

Stripe integration for processing all payment transactions.

Database architecture designed for high security around financial data and personal information.

Frontend (seafarer app)

A single React Native codebase deployed to both iOS and Android app stores to grant all crews a consistent experience.

Offline-first functionality for critical features like eSIM access and viewing wallet balances.

A focused user interface for purchasing connectivity, buying digital coupons, and viewing employer-sent rewards.

THE RESULT

The maritime R&R platform launched on schedule. Initial deployment with pilot companies recorded a 40% increase in reward redemption rates compared to previous paper-based systems. Company managers now execute crew recognition in minutes rather than through delayed logistical processes.
